Hungarians do not support NATO expansion to East
Composed by 16 civic and political organisations the Hungarian Peace Community has asked to meet russian president Vladimir Putin during his visit on Tuesday in Hungary and tell him, that the overwhelming majority of the Hungarian People wants good relations with Russia and rejects the expansion of NATO toward East. A National meeting for Peace has been convoked in Budapest for next Tuesday, contemporarily with Putin visit.
In the communique released on Thursday the Hungarian Peace Community condemns the blackmail of Russia with the american plan to militarize Ukraine, announced by Obama to Merkel on Monday in Washington. They also reject the military mobilisation ordered by the ukranian president, Petro Porosenko. „Russia has the right to grant his own security against the NATO expansion to East, as well as to defend his 7,5 million of citizens living in Ukraine against Kiev army employed in Donbas” – is written in the communique. Peace Community statement continues telling that „Of course we do not wait from NATO to avow his real intention: the geopolitical gaining ground and the appetite for russian raw material riches. We simply wait Realpolitik from NATO, realizing that Russia will not yield to him. Western Allied must realize, that they cannot do more what they want. World has changed and they have to revise their strategy of East, and settle down into an equal right cooperation with Russia, China and Eurasian Economic Union born on 1st January”. At the opinion of the hungarian civilians Hungary’s relations with East must be based on mutual respect and christian principles. The Peace Community of Hungary considers national interest the opening to East policy of the hungarian government and hopes that the peaceful living together and the cooperation will overcome on the spirit of conquest, and will bring East and West to a new kind of compromise in the fields of Security, Economics and Human Rights. To achieve this the Peace Community reserve a special rule to Peace living People and their Societies. They would like that russian President and hungarian PM espouse their initiative for a European Civic Peace Conference in Budapest promoving the convocation of a Helsinki like international conference on cooperation between States, with the aim to elaborate a new political and institutional frame starting from the new reality caracterised by the modified relations of forces, instead of the military confrontation. Finally the Hungarian Peace Community reaffirms his position, that it is national interest of Hungary to maintain good relations with both East and West.++
