Ukraine – Hungary

In a Press Release published on Sunday the Hungarian Social Forum – Social Roundtable has called the hungarian Government not to give his name to the expansion of NATO to Ukraine and not to participate at the destabilisation of the Eastern European area at the expense of Russian interests.

The geopolitical position of Hungary, bordering with Ukraine, warns to realpolitik. Government must give priority to national interests instead of the uncritical serving of Western strategical interests – communique writes. Hungary’s essential interest is to avoid his involvement onto a military conflict and avoid the risk of the suspension of the indispensable energy supply from Russia. There not exist only hungarian minority interests in Ukraine, but also Russian ones. Such interests cannot be limited to the use of the different languages. A multi-ethnical country like Ukraine must not deny to anybody to speak in his mother language, maintain free contacts with his mother country and freely express also his political will. A realy democratic Ukraine must not choose between West and East, but he must have good relations with both at the interest of national development and the peaceful coexsistence of his Nationalities. The Hungarian Diplomacy would accomplish his task if he would contribute to promote this reqirement. At the opinion of HSF SR the giving up of the „opening on East” policy on the altar of EU economical and NATO military expansion to East could have serious consequences for Hungary. For this reason the Human and Social Right movement calls the government of Mr. Viktor Orban to follow the Realpolitik.
