Budapest, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 (MSZF)
The Hungarian Social Forum (MSZF) would consider it appropriate if János Lázár, known for his anti-gypsy and anti-poor views, were removed from his position. It would be good for the government's reputation if it did not enter into a moral community with a minister who believes that gypsies are only good for cleaning toilets, the MSZF said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The social cooperation forum also reminds Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of the statement made by the Minister of Transport in March 2011, according to which "Who has nothing is worth as much".
"From time to time, the responsible officials of your government demonstrate such immoral politicking that provokes outrage from all decent people, regardless of their race, gender, religion, worldview," the statement said.
They ask the prime minister why he tolerates racial discrimination and disregarding the poor.
"During the first reign of your government you classified the millions who were deprived of their work, their livelihood, and their human dignity by the privatization of agricultural cooperatives and state-owned enterprises as 'a society of ruins'. What kind of value system does it tell you that the Gypsy is only good for serving the Hungarians? We can rightly assume that you suffer from a superiority complex? Why don't you give clearly to the understanding of our people that Gypsies and non-Gypsies are considered to have equal rights, and those who politicize against their equality are held accountable?" - they write to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
MSZF considers the social and moral insensitivity of the leadership to be worrying as the parliamentary elections approach.
"All sane people want Hungary to stay out of the war and for the country's life to be guided by peace policy in the future as well. Why do you risk the peace of the nation, Hungarians, Gypsies, and others by discrediting yourself with your social views two months before the election, assuming that many people with little experience in politics will vote against you because of the racist, anti-poor, immoral policy of your minister?” – they ask.
Finally, the MSZF notes: for many years, the Orbán government has shown a repulsive attitude towards those social organizations that criticize its social policy in the spirit of improvement and condemn its nepotism.+++
